Google announces ‘Google Pay,’ a merge of Android Pay and Google Wallet

As most of you know, Google often times comes off a bit odd in their decision-making to have several apps serve one purpose. It has been the case with messenger and video chat apps, and wireless payment apps too. In a move the search giant has made at CES 2018, the Android Pay and Google Wallet payment services have merged, and the result is “Google Pay.”

Google Pay is the new Android Pay, app gets complete overhaul

During CES 2018, Google announced that Android Pay would merge with Google Wallet and be phased into Google Pay. The branding change has been occurring in bits and pieces over recent weeks, but has now gone into full effect just about everywhere. This includes the Android Pay application, which has been updated with a complete overhaul including a new user interface and Google Pay as the name.

Google announces ‘Smart Displays,’ Google Assistant speakers with a built-in display

For a change in times, Google is making big announcements at CES. We’ve already heard about Google Pay, and now Google has announced ‘Smart Displays.’ These are essentially Google Home speakers with the Google Assistant that have a built-in display, and they’ll be made by various hardware partners. Think of them as a collection of Echo Show-like speakers, only powered by the Google Assistant and not Amazon Alexa.
