Qualcomm brings premium features to the new Snapdragon 710 mobile platform

Qualcomm is making headlines today and they have nothing to do with Broadcom. The announcement is of a Snapdragon 710 mobile platform to replace the older 660 platform. A new 700 chipset will make up the new platform to start and will bring high-end features to upcoming mid-range devices. This is a major target of Qualcomm for 2018 and this is a step in the right direction.

Qualcomm readies new chipset for smartwatches

Qualcomm Senior Director of Wearables spoke with tech blog Wearable, confirming a new Snapdragon processor for smartwatches. The most recent chipset by the company is the Snapdragon 2100 which debuted a mere two years ago and continues to find its way in Wear OS smartwatches. Google is revamping Wear OS this year and Qualcomm will contribute to the effort with a new processor coming this fall to be used in future smartwatches.

The US government just put an end to Broadcom’s interest in taking over Qualcomm

Back in November in an unexpected story, we learned about Broadcom’s interest in acquiring Qualcomm if the price was right. Qualcomm rejected the initial offer of $130 billion, but Broadcom never gave up and continued coming back with other ideas. However, the two don’t seem like they’ll be negotiating an acquisition anymore since the US Government essentially just blocked any takeover from happening.

Qualcomm Board of Directors turns down Broadcom’s acquisition offer
