For the time being, the tension between Amazon and Google has been put on hold, because Amazon just announced that Prime Video has come out for Google’s Android TV platform. The app allows for easy access to Prime Video by Amazon Prime subscribers.
If you’re a fan of Amazon’s video service, but also of Google’s Android TV platform, the new Prime Video app is for you. In the past, Amazon has been shy when it comes to releasing apps on Google’s software platforms such as Android and Android TV, so this news caught us by surprise, especially considering that we had no prior knowledge of it coming.
Most of you are aware of the love-hate relationship between Amazon and Google right now, but this bit of news is a good sign that the two tech giants might be trying to put their selfishness aside and work together again to bring the best to consumers. This hasn’t exactly been the case for smart products just yet, but hopefully this move means good things to come.
The app is showing in the Play Store catalog on Android TV, but most people aren’t able to download and install the service just yet. If you own an NVIDIA SHIELD TV, this won’t be new to you, because the company bundled in an Amazon Prime Video app as part of its software package since the very beginning as part of a deal inked with Amazon. Keep in mind that once it becomes available to everyone, you’ll still need a subscription to take advantage of the functionality.
Keep it tuned to us for more coverage of your favorite tech.
