Android Nougat is expected to see a total of three maintenance releases

Last week, we saw the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat. At that same time, Google also announced that it would begin pushing out maintenance releases to the new mobile OS. According to leaker extraordinaire Evan Blass, the next three releases will be Android 7.1 Nougat, Android 7.1.1 and Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

While not much information has been shared yet, one can assume that Google has already started working on the 7.1 update. The Android 7.1 update is the one expected to ship with the upcoming Nexus devices. We are expecting the 7.1 update to feature the long-awaited Google Assistant and include the Nexus Launcher as well as the newly designed nav controls and Allo, the new messaging app.
We expect the 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 update to come thereafter and likely bring performance improvements and bug fixes.

We are expecting MR1 to launch in October, around the same time as Marlin and Sailfish are expected to launch.
