T-Mobile is the latest carrier to announce a parental control service. FamilyMode was introduced this morning and is a brand new service that costs $10 per month on top of your wireless bill. This is pretty much the standard, though this service adds a bit more than most other to justify itself as the best.
AT&T has been in the news a lot and last week the carrier fully unveiled its new Watch TV video streaming service. We heard about the service a few weeks ago in a prior report, but now we have a lot more information regarding what to make of it.
Verizon Wireless is doing something interesting with its unlimited plans for families. As of Monday afternoon, the carrier added a new “Above Unlimited” data plan that can be mixed and matched with the existing Go and Beyond plans. Everyone is eligible.
A few weeks ago, Sprint started a promotion that gave new customers a low-end unlimited plan for just $15 per month per line. The offer known as Unlimited Kickstart helped Sprint capture new wireless subscribers because of the low monthly price, but the carrier will no longer be able to keep it up due to higher than expected demand for the service.
AT&T has been making headlines this week. The carrier wants to be more competitive with the soon to be giant made of T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as media giants like Netflix and Amazon. AT&T has made changes to its plans, and now customers of AT&T might be in for something big. According to Reuters, AT&T’s request of approval to buy Time Warner has been granted and the deal will close June 20, 2018.
It was confirmed near the end of last week that AT&T will be increasing the price one will pay for its old unlimited plan. Starting this July, an AT&T unlimited data plan will be $5 steeper per month. This isn’t a significant increase and while it won’t break the deal for many of you, it puts competitors in a better spot.
If you own a Moto Z or Galaxy S7 smartphone on Verizon, I give you full credit for holding your breath on Android Oreo. Unlike some other carriers in the US who rolled out the update for these devices many months ago, Verizon is yet to do so and has told owners of these devices many times that the update is coming. After a long wait, the update is almost ready and will release “in a few weeks.”
Motorola introduced a trio of new Moto G6 smartphones in April (G6, G6 Plus, G6 Play) and today, one model and color has gone up for sale at Verizon. As we’ve seen in the past with Moto G5 Plus and Moto G handsets before it, Verizon is always first to carry Lenovo’s mid-range successors.
