Huawei has announced its plans to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat for its smartphones in the first quarter of 2017. The update will arrive in the form of version 5.0 of Huawei’s EMUI overlay for Android.

According to GSMArena, who first reported the news, the Mate 8 and P9 will be the first Huawei devices to receive the update followed by the P9 Plus, P9 Lite, Nova, and Nova Plus.

The Mate 9 launched a month ago and comes with EMUI 5.0 over Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box.

Huawei has claimed that EMUI 5.0 is much simpler and more user-friendly than its predecessors as it “significantly cuts down on the number of steps needed to achieve the desired function.” In addition, the new skin brings back the app drawer, which can be enabled through the settings.

GSMArena also reported that owners of the P9, P9 Plus, P9 Lite, and Mate 8 will be able to participate in beta testing for the Android Nougat update.
