Last week tech blog Droid-Life leaked information on an upcoming Moto G6 family, a Moto 5X smartphone and more. The latest leak spill has revealed information about Motorola’s Z line of devices, which in 2018 could contain only a Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play. We’ve also received word on the possibility of a new moto mod that will work with these devices, a 5G Moto Mod.
Motorola appears to have an interesting product portfolio for 2018, and over the last week or so, we may have got a good look at it. The last thing Motorola probably wanted to leak was inside information regarding its next Android flagship smartphone, but someone was an enemy and leaked as much as they could. If you hate specification spoilers, we recommend turning away now.
Droid-Life was unable to verify the inside source, so take the following for what it’s worth. This is our first bit of information on Lenovo’s upcoming plans for Motorola when it comes to flagship hardware, and there’s a lot to go over. First off, it seems like there will be just one flagship model, a Moto Z3 with ShatterShield and a narrower, taller 18:9 aspect ratio. The device could have an all-screen front to match current trends and be competitive in high-end Android markets. This means, little bezel all around, which would be the biggest design change for Motorola in quite some time. Word is that the display will measure 6-inches and be of a Full HD resolution.
The Moto Z3 Play expected to succeed last year’s Moto Z2 Play will be an upper mid-range device. The leak claims that it’ll sport the same display size and resolution as the Moto Z3 with little bezel and all else other than screen on the front. Neither Moto Z3 phone appears to have the notch up top like the rumored Moto X5 we saw the other day, but the white software key is visible on these models and could be for navigation in place of a home button. As was the case with Moto X5, no fingerprint scanner has been found on either of the two devices. This could mean one of two things, a beneath-display scanner or no scanner at all.
Before we get carried away on the Moto Z3 phones that are yet to be confirmed by Motorola, let’s take a look at yet another new moto mod that could be on the horizon. The 5G Moto Mod, made by Motorola, could add 5G capabilities to Moto Z, Moto Z2 and Moto Z3 phones. This is an interesting idea, as are all moto mods, but this one could truly be a game changer because we’ve never seen a company bring this kind of functionality to a phone externally. It’s still nothing more than a leak right now, but the chance of this actually happening is exciting and should put Motorola fans on their heels. Other than the image shown above, no further information is available.
Last year’s Moto Z2 devices were unveiled in July, and according to Motorola’s roadmap, that’s when these smartphones will be introduced alongside a possible third Moto Z3 device with a Snapdragon 845 SoC and higher-resolution display.
