DeX was first introduced alongside Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 smartphone. We know the name DeX from Samsung’s DeX Station, a dock that turns one’s Galaxy Note 8 into a desktop like experience when paired with an external monitor. A few months ago, it was discovered that Samsung was working on a new DeX model, and now there’s proof.
Samsung has filed a trademark on ‘DeX Pad.’ This could be a new accessory coming in time for the arrival of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 models. The difference here is in the name. ‘Pad’ indicates that Samsung’s new DeX accessory could be something to lay our phone down on, as opposed to a dock to stand it up on. This means that the technology could be moving to wireless and include wireless charging through a pad. This should make the set up process even less of a hassle each time the owner wants to use it. See the above image for an idea of what this accessory could look like.
That’s just about all we know at this point in time. It’s still unknown whether old Galaxy models will be compatible with the new DeX Pad, or only yet-to-be seen handsets from Samsung. With an event scheduled for next week in Las Vegas, we may just get a closer look. But sources claim that the gadget won’t be introduced until the official Galaxy S9 unveiling slated for February.
