These are Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

We all know Samsung will announce new flagship phones, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, in a matter of days. And thanks to a recent leak that exposes just about everything, we now know just about everything there is to know with these upcoming phones.

The fresh renders included throughout this post confirm nearly everything we’re expecting. Several models have surfaced of the smaller Galaxy S9 model, all with Black fronts and colorful rears. These include Midnight Black, Carol Blue and Lilac Purple. As for the larger Galaxy S9+, we see Carol Blue and Lilac Purple. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of additional colors.

Both models have a rear camera with variable aperture. The larger sibling has a dual camera combo at the rear, while the smaller Galaxy S9 sports a single camera lens. This marks a shift for Samsung in differentiating the two models on an account other than size and battery. Both phones also have a front camera with auto-focus, and both handsets have AKG Audio.

From a design standpoint, the pair looks to have less of an edge when compared to previous Samsung phones such as Galaxy S8. Maybe it’s me, but it sure looks like the edge is less thick and steep. Both screens use Samsung’s latest AMOLED technology for accurate colors and high outdoor visibility. The iris scanner is making a return, in addition to the fingerprint scanner, which is now located at a more reachable position on the rear of each phone. Maybe the Galaxy Note 9 will bring the much-anticipated beneath-glass fingerprint reader. As we wait for Samsung to implement one for the first time, the company could introduce a new 3D facial recognition security method, said to operate similar to that on iPhone X.

The upcoming Galaxy S9 models will run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 845 processor. The smaller Galaxy S9 could house a 3,000 battery cell, while the larger a beefier 3,500mAh cell. Both are expected to be rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, as were their predecessors. As shown in the leaks, it seems there will be a single SIM slot and support for microSD storage expansion.

Samsung will announce the phones at its Unpacked 2018 event in Barcelona, just prior to the start of MWC 2018. The showcase will take place on February 25 at 12:00pm EST. The rumored release date is March 8, which is when pre-orders (said to begin shortly after the event) will ship to buyers.
