Over the weekend, a multitude of Android Wear watch owners were hit with an over-the-air update. Several users took things over to Reddit to talk about the update, and one particular Android Wear watch owner discovered a new feature inside the unannounced Android Wear 2.8 software update.
Last week, Google released Oreo for Android Wear. However, only LG’s Watch Sport and Watch Style saw the update arrive over-the-air. To give some clarification as to which Android Wear smartwatches will receive the latest Oreo update, Google confirmed a full list of those eligible and published it on one Google support page.
Smartwatches were the hype of 2016. Apple, Samsung and many others got heavily invested in the wearable market, trying to make it the next big thing in mobile tech. Even though the market for wearables now seems like it won’t be the next revolution in consumer electronics, Google is still updating its Android Wear operating system.
The Android Wear operating system can now be updated through the Play Store, and today it is. The Android Wear application is about to be updated to v2.6, as pointed out by an APK file over at AKPMirror, which will bring several new features and improvements.
Google’s Hoi Lam made an important announcement on Twitter this week, stating that Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches can now receive updates sent only through the Play Store.
