Spotify has been doing a lot to differentiate and many have been expecting a substantial update to land for the music-streaming service. That update has arrived today comprising a handful of new features.
Spotify is the most popular music-streaming service today, but others have found a way to seep into the market and take away from Spotify’s market share. To stay on top of the market that has seen gains in the number of both consumers and competitors, Spotify is coming out with feature additions and minor tweaks.
The updates for Android and iOS users are mainly directed at unpaid ‘Free on Spotify’ users to get them to go premium. Free users now have the ability to create their own playlists. There are also new curated on-demand playlists based on what the user likes. Users also have more open control over what track is playing. Spotify claims these will improve over time with usage, and can be updated any time by plugging in various music tastes. This way, the app can put out better content recommendations for people to listen to. This is not groundbreaking, but it looks to work well from what we can see.
Check out the below video that demos some of the latest additions.
Spotify appears to be rolling out the update now for a limited number of users. Though, the company says to expect it “within a few weeks.” You can try downloading the app below from the link in brackets, or by updating your existing app from the Play Store.
