Over the weekend, there was an outburst in comments on a Reddit thread in the Google Pixel subreddit. A trusted source looked to see what was going on, and discovered that more than just a few Nexus device owners seem to be receiving email about a 20% discount on Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL.
Google is rewarding “loyal” Nexus owners by sending a 20% off coupon via email, valid when claimed on a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL. You likely have to have purchased your Nexus through the Google Store in order to be eligible for the promotion. It can used on a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL in any color or storage variant you choose, but availability may be limited.
Who exactly is getting the email with the discount link and what Nexus devices qualify is all but certain. Reddit users are trying to figure that part out, but the list of 250+ comments doesn’t end with a result. If you’re lucky enough, cool! We would say definitely go for the upgrade. No phone trade-in is necessary, so you can keep your precious Nexus around.
The promotion could be another attempt by Google to increase Pixel sales following somewhat disappointing numbers released by the IDC, reflecting on 2017. There have to be quite a few Nexus owners still out there, and Google is making the upgrade decision easy for them. With constant efforts by Google to get deeper into the hardware business, this year could be well on track to outdo sales achieved last year. We have some waiting to do before rumors start building surrounding this year’s Pixel phones, so we’ll see what happens in due time. There’s plenty to fill in the gap, that’s for sure.
To claim the 20% offer, follow the link in the email and it will automatically apply to the Google account you’re using. There’s no need to enter any code at checkout. You have until February 28 to decide.
