We’ve been hearing rumors depicting a first-ever Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphone without a home button. We’ve also been hearing reports about a Galaxy S8 with a bezel-less display and dual-edge design. Since, many have been concerned about the placement of the fingerprint scanner, which had existed underneath the front-flanked home button ever since its birth on Samsung devices. Now we have what could be the solution.
A rear-mounted fingerprint scanner? Nope. Better yet, Samsung may opt for a new fingerprint scanning technology developed by Synaptics, which allows the scanner to be placed beneath the glass of a smartphone or tablet display. If this were to stand true, it would be the very first of its kind, appearing to make Samsung the innovator. However, several other smartphone manufacturers are also thinking about going the same route with their future flagships.
Given the pressure Samsung has been under to make the Galaxy S8 great to counter the whole Galaxy Note 7 scandal, it would be reasonable to expect Samsung among the first implementing such as technology. Let’s just hope that the speed and accuracy of the fingerprint scanner found on recent Galaxy flagships aren’t lost.
