Android Messages for Web is official along other new features

This week, Google announced that its Android Messages SMS app on Android is coming to web with new features. We heard a report a few months back indicating this might happen, and the changes appear to be going into place today across several continents for some lucky users. Google’s Allo messaging app gained a web client not so long ago and it wasn’t exactly a game-changer, but Android Messages could be different.

Google’s Smart Reply function has been around for some time in a bevy of apps and services. The feature Google originally brought to market is now becoming a norm in most messaging applications, but not everyone has had access to the feature. This week, it was first discovered by folks on Reddit that Smart Reply has started to appear in Google’s Android Messages app for those without Project Fi.

Huawei will soon board the Android Messages app on its phones with Google’s ‘Jibe’ RCS

RCS has to be approved by your carrier, and Google’s Android Messages app is one of the few clients on Android that supports the advanced functionality. Google renames its ‘Messenger’ platform to ‘Android Messages’, RCS incoming?

Messenger is just one app on Google’s list of many communication platforms including Allo, Hangouts, Google Voice, and Duo. Messenger has been the one Google tends to make your default on Nexus and Pixel smartphones. However, it has also been available as a seperate app download for those running a specified version of Android or higher. Today, the platform is receiving an update that changes the name to ‘Android Messages’.
