There will be no Essential PH-2, and here’s why

Andy Rubin, one of the founding fathers of the Android mobile operating system, is calling quits on his company Essential. Essential is just over a year old and originated by a group of recruits from other tech companies to create an ‘essential’ smartphone running Android that would be customizable, easy to update, less-bloated, and AI proficient. The company did just that with its Essential PH-1, but while developing a new model, big news struck the firm out of nowhere.

Everyone has their own first impression of Essential and the products they have thus far announced. You can feel good about the potential of Essential, or you can feel not so good about the chances of Essential performing well. This week we learned a bit more about Essential, and it was the bit we needed.

The co-founder of Android, Andy Rubin floated a new company, Essential, and it appears to be having a bright start. The company unveiled a series of devices yesterday such as the Essential PH-1 smartphone and Essential Home device, which is like Amazon Echo and Google Home, with a different operating system called “Ambient.”
