Earlier this year at MWC 2018, a plentiful of budget smartphones were announced. Alcatel was one among many to target this market, but Alcatel 3V offers a bit more in exchange for your money as a means to differentiate.
Alcatel has stuck to what has made the company successful in the past, and that’s affordable, budget-friendly phones. The company introduced a collection of mid and low-end devices in February, but one of the more promising models of the bunch in the Alcatel 3V just recently went up for pre-order on Amazon in one color (Black not pictured). We were told the device would make a splash around May, and have now learned that May 29 will be the release date (also when pre-orders will ship). Amazon is one retailer selling it and the phone is priced at a super affordable $149 unlocked. For what you’re getting in this phone, this is more than a solid price.
To recap some of the hardware specifications, there’s a 6-inch QHD display with the newer 18:9 aspect ratio that’s taller and less wide than traditional 16:9. This is uncommon on smartphones found at this price tag. The phone is made of plastic as you might expect, but has some good specs under the hood including a MediaTek MT8735A processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, microSD expansion, a 3,000mAh battery, and rear mounted fingerprint reader. Perhaps most impressive is the phone’s dual camera setup including 12MP and 2MP sensors on back. Android 8.0 Oreo is installed from the box.
Alcatel 3V will work on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. Other retailers are expected to sell the device as well, but at some later date. We’ll let you know further details shall we get them. Let us know what you think of Alcatel’s offer for 2018, down in the comments.
