Samsung will reveal this year’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship smartphones at Unpacked 2018 in Barcelona, Spain one day prior to the start of MWC 2018. The event will be accompanied by a livestream that we’ll link right here when it begins at 12:00PM Eastern Standard Time.
Samsung was very unpredictable this year. Early rumors claimed that the South Korean conglomerate would show off the new phones during an event at CES 2018 in January, but that didn’t happen. Then we figured Samsung would hold a private unveiling, as they usually do for big smartphone launches like that of its Galaxy S Series. However, Samsung will in fact return to the old days and introduce the Galaxy S8 successors at MWC 2018. This is a few weeks earlier than usual, perhaps to put competition on notice that something new and amazing is coming. Since the confirmation of the event and Samsung’s first teaser, companies have elected not to announce high-end smartphones of their own during the trade show, almost like Samsung scared them away. Let’s hope announcing the models early will allow us to get hands on the phones early. Anticipation is high, and many are expecting nothing short of perfection. It’ll be interesting to see if the company delivers.
Accompanying the main event in the city of Barcelona will be several satellite events in major cities around the world. As it usually does, Samsung will hold a livestream of the event online so people can tune in and watch the show from home.
Every eye will be on Samsung time come February 25. The company confirmed this year’s event over one month ago, and dedicated fans around the globe have been waiting for the clock to tick ever since. Although leaks, rumors and reports have given much information away, many questions still remain regarding the Galaxy S9’s design, availability, pricing, and features.
Samsung has invited media to attend the big unveiling in person, though, that’s not the only way to watch Unpacked 2018. As mentioned above, Samsung will livestream its unveiling on YouTube and Samsung.com. Bookmark this page and tune-in right before the event starts. We’ll have the stream for you right here at DT. And as always, you can count on us to bring full coverage, analysis and insight once the event gets going.
