Sony fans residing in the US can rejoice as the company’s latest high-end phones, Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, will soon become available. These are the latest and greatest Sony has created, finally incorporating a somewhat modern design language known as Ambient Flow, and we like it a lot. Here is what you should know as well as where and when you’ll be able to get them.
At MWC 2018, Sony announced new phones part of the company’s Xperia XZ lineup. These are the larger Xperia XZ2 and more affordable Xperia XZ2 Compact. If you’ve purchased a Sony phone before, the branding should be familiar to you. Not all Sony phones come to the US, especially this soon after an official introduction, so this is rather surprising and good news on the company we don’t often report on as it pertains to Android.
To recap some of the hardware specifications, both handsets are powered by a Snapdragon 845 chip, have 64GB of storage (with microSD), come with 4GB of RAM, and lack a headphone jack for bizarre reasons. As for differences between the two units, you should consider screen size and build quality. The Xperia XZ2 Compact will come with a smaller plastic build, while the Xperia XZ2 will have a larger build composed of metal and glass. The compact model will come in choice of Black, White Silver, Moss Green, or Coral Pink (availability may vary), while the Xperia XZ2 is expected to come in Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Deep Green, and Ash Pink (pictured above).
The pair is already available via pre-order unlocked through retail outlets like Best Buy. Pricing details entail a $649 tag on the Xperia XZ2 Compact and a $799 tag on the Xperia XZ2. Shipping is free and a warranty is included. As far as release information is concerned, units will begin shipping once the devices come to shelves at Best Buy on May 6. Amazon will begin selling both phones a bit later starting from May 20 for unknown circumstances.
We’ve linked the Black-colored models below for those interested. Any takers?
