Nest announces slew of new smart home products

Nest surprised us this week with a bevy of new products for the smart home. Nest Secure is a smart alarm system, Next Hello is a new doorbell with a camera, and Next Cam IQ is a new outdoor security camera. Not everything about each product is entirely new, and the prices for these new gadgets aren’t cheap. Some of the devices are up for pre-order now and will hit markets later this fall.

Google extends security patch support for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P by two months

The last Google Nexus smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, were both due to continue receiving software patch updates until September 2018. However, Google has updated its support pages to give each handset an additional two months of patch support compared with the earlier date.

Twitter might soon double its tweet character limit from 140 up to 280

Twitter is experimenting with a new character limit for tweets. For as long as we can remember, the threshold has been at 140 characters, which for most us, just simply isn’t enough. This can be seen as one of the downsides to using Twitter for expressing thoughts or something important that happened during your day, that just can’t be told in two lines.

Verizon’s Wear24 Android Wear smartwatch is no longer available

A few months ago, Verizon and Quanta (the producer) debuted an Android Wear smartwatch namely Wear24. The watch was available for $349 outright and was 4G LTE compatible, with of course Verizon’s wireless network. In what was supposed to contribute to the revival of Google’s Android Wear platform by showcasing the powers of Wear 2.0, the Wear24 smartwatch appears to be no longer available.

Amazon made a deal with the National Football League (NFL) during the off-season months that will provide Prime customers with free access to live Thursday night games.
