Android Auto has been available for a few years now. We don’t hear about the smart platform by Google for automobiles all that often, but this week we have a headline to report.
If you own a Nexus smartphone such as the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X, and/or have the Pixel C tablet, there’s some bad news. You may have already knew this day was coming, but Google has now officially dropped support for major OS updates for these three devices.
Over the weekend, there was an outburst in comments on a Reddit thread in the Google Pixel subreddit. A trusted source looked to see what was going on, and discovered that more than just a few Nexus device owners seem to be receiving email about a 20% discount on Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL.
As reported last year, more than a few Nexus 5X owners have experienced an unsolvable bootloop issue since updating to newer versions of Android. At one point, full refunds were being issued, but now it seems that Google is replacing faulty units with Moto X4 smartphones.
Google’s only commercially available digital media player and Android TV device, the Nexus Player, is receiving the Google Assistant as part of the November 2017 security patch to Android 8.0 Oreo.
The last Google Nexus smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, were both due to continue receiving software patch updates until September 2018. However, Google has updated its support pages to give each handset an additional two months of patch support compared with the earlier date.
