Android 7.0 Nougat arrived on the world stage back in September when Google unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL, but it appears as though some customers (Verizon Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge customers, in particular) are just getting Google’s latest sweet treat – six months after its unveiling. There are less than six months remaining before the unveiling of the new major Android update: Android O.
While most Android users are consumed with questions of “When will my device get Android Nougat?”, Google is already planning for the future. A new report says that Google is looking to add some new smart features, to what is already the world’s most adopted mobile platform, in its next major update.
One rumored Android O feature, ‘Copy Less’, could allow Android messaging to pull up an address you’ve searched for in Yelp for a dinner date you’re planning over messaging. Google Maps integration with text messages could allow you to pull up directions to a new place when someone drops the address in a conversation with you. Finally, action gestures could let Android users, for example, draw a “C” to activate the camera, or an “O” to open contacts. Google wouldn’t be the first to implement this, with action gestures being already present on phones such as the Huawei Mate 9 as well as the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, where one can draw an “O” to launch the camera or a “V” to toggle on or off the flashlight.
The above features are rumored for the time being, with little else to confirm about them. What the full name of Android O will be is also a mystery, though Android, Chrome, and Play SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer’s recent Oreo GIF posted on Twitter gives a subtle hint.
