With the launch of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung promised us Bixby, a virtual voice assistant capable of doing anything that touch can. The project has since been delayed many months, due to engineering struggles and a lack of resources. U.S. citizens and owners of the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ have been unable to interact with Bixby’s signature voice recognition features. With the Galaxy Note 8 on the horizon, Samsung must soon find a way to push Bixby publicly, and it seems like they have.
According to a user on Reddit who goes by the name ‘Bixbyguy’ and is said to be a Samsung insider, Bixby Voice will be made available in the United States beginning on July 18 (tomorrow). The user posted a screenshot (see below) of what looks to be part of an email being sent out to Samsung employees or staff members. Below the announcement is a hyperlink that allows the receiver to watch and learn with new Bixby Webinar training.
With the Bixby update, Samsung may include a patch that permanently locks Bixby to the hardware button found on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 units. Perhaps the sneak preview is complete, and we’ll be testing Bixby Voice in-house tomorrow. I sure hope so.
