A few days ago, Jurassic World Alive made its debut on Android. The mobile game has come out just in the neck of time as the upcoming Jurassic World movie is set to release this June. To get hyped for the movie, Ludia Inc. has created a game where some smartphone owners can have a bit of fun by playing with dinosaurs in the next dimension.
The latest Pokemon GO type app is here in the form of Jurassic World Alive. Think of it as Pokemon GO with only ferocious dinosaurs replacing the Pokemon. In the game, players must track down various dinosaurs, collect DNA samples and produce hybrid dinosaurs in the Jurassic Lab. The goal is to collect the different dinosaurs, form teams and use them to fight off threats by taking on missions in competitive arenas. And did I say there’s multiplayer?
This is an augmented reality (AR) game so it will require compatible hardware to work such as the Google Pixel or a high-end flagship phone. However, the game is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 or newer. It’s free to install, but there’s a monthly subscription priced at $9.99 that adds functionality to improve the game experience. After giving the app a try, it’ll be up to you to decide if it’s worth the extra money.
Like other AR apps, Jurassic World Alive can use the real-world environment for the simulation. In other words, you can make digital dinosaurs come alive in your own backyard using only your phone and its camera, and experience how these dinosaurs look and act up close. Thanks to strides made by Google in AR for mapping real-world environments for use by developers, games like these are becoming more prevalent and personally, I think they’re cool. Expect to see similar games make use of different characters down the road.
Grab the app if you have a compatible device from the link in brackets below or head into Google’s Play Store and search for it. My experience has been good thus far; feel free to drop your own in the comments.
