Motorola could have a Moto G6 family in the pipeline, but we haven’t heard much in this regard. That is, until Tuesday afternoon, when three Moto G6 devices were leaked.
If Motorola (owned by Lenovo) is working on Moto G5 and Moto G5S successors, the devices pictured in this post are likely them. The handsets could be in for an official announcement during MWC 2018, which will be held in February. Heading into this week, we knew hardly anything about the company’s 2018 plans, and now we know quite a bit.
There are three leaked Moto G6 devices: Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play. As with previous generation Moto G models, each model could have a different set of specifications – the Moto G6 Play is the entry-level variant of the range, and the Moto G6 Plus is the high-end variant. The Moto G6 family is believed to be based around two chipsets: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630. This report points to the Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 having the Snapdragon 450, which is an octa-core chipset built using an ARM Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.8GHz. The Moto G6 Plus should have the faster Snapdragon 630, which has eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz supported by an Adreno 508 GPU. Both processors represent an update from those used in the Moto G5 series from 2017.
As for display tech, Motorola is rumored to be changing the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 18:9 in each case. The Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus are both reckoned to be using a 1080p resolution display of 5.7-inch and 5.9-inch sizes, respectively. The Moto G6 Play is believed to be using a 5.7-inch 720p display. Motorola has also adjusted the battery sizes, upping the Moto G6 Play to 4,000mAh, with the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus having batteries of 3,000mAh and 3,200mAh, respectively.
For the design and colors available, leaked illustrations give us hints. There’s a rear camera design and a glass finish, unlike the metal phones that came before. We would expect each of the models to come with a fingerprint reader, too. And for colors, the report points toward the Moto G6 Play coming in Charcoal, Gold, and Dark Blue options. The Moto G6 could be available in Black, Silver and Rose Gold, with the Moto G6 Plus in ‘Deep Indigo,’ ‘Nimbus’ and ‘Dark Lake’ choices.
