Next week we’ll be in Barcelona for MWC 2018, and we’re expecting a few Android smartphones to debut. Alcatel has teased three models, Samsung has a new flagship, Sony is bringing something curvy, and LG has a re-envisioned LG V30. But that’s not all. HTC will be at the event, and thanks to a recent leak, we now know what the Taiwan-headquartered manufacturer has been up to.
HTC has been rather quiet to start the 2018 year, which isn’t surprising after the company told us it would release less smartphones this year. Earlier this week, a leak surfaced and made way to Android Authority, who claims HTC will introduce its first smartphone of the year, HTC Desire 12, next week.
The Desire family is HTC’s mid-range line-up, and the first entry for 2018 could be a new Desire 12. As pointed out by a recent leak of the handset’s packaging, the device will include a MediaTek processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable via microSD). The screen will measure 5.5-inches (1,440 x 720) diagonally and be of the new 18:9 aspect ratio, which is taller and narrower than traditional 16:9. It could have a 12MP rear-facing camera, 5MP front-facing camera and 2,730mAh battery unit. There will also be dual SIM.
Since this is our first time hearing about the device, its release probably won’t be for some time. Sit tight.
