Google isn’t the one to normally poke at other companies such as Apple. On the other hand, Samsung has made it part of their nature to throw punches at Apple, and more recently, Motorola has joined that party. Whether you have nothing against Apple or simply can’t stand them, there’s no denying that they can be easily criticized.
Google tends to stay away from verbal skirmishes, although with its new strategies in place, they thought again. On October 4th at its hardware event in San Francisco, Google couldn’t help but to throw a few punches at other companies. Prior to the start of the whole “Made By Google” campaign, Google’s sole focus was on software, much of which still is. While the company can often be seen to rival with Apple’s ecosystem, Apple branded products do help Google produce revenue. Therefore, if it were to fight off Apple, it could thereby indirectly hurt itself in a way. Apple also relies heavily on Google, particularly on their software creations like YouTube, Search and Maps. This is the highlighting reason the two have maintained friendliness over the years. However, this could soon all change.
With Google’s new emphasis on providing hardware products, it will be directly competing with other manufacturers in this industry, specifically high-end rivals like Samsung and Apple. For the first time in a while, Google threw a few jabs at Apple and their competitive hardware such as the iPhone lineup. It took place at Google’s event that was held on October 4th. If you watched the livestream or saw the announcement live, did you catch anything?
There were actually quite a few jabs in the event that we counted, three in which we counted that went against Apple, specifically the iPhone 7 and iOS. The first one took place when Google was onstage talking about the all-around improved camera present on Pixel. The company noted the sensor’s Dxomark rating of 89, which is the highest score of any smartphone camera on the market. In fact, the presenter went so far to announce that the the sensor is “the best anyone has every made.” The slap in the face came when a scale appeared in the background showing phones will lower overall camera ratings such as Apple’s iPhone 7 and others. The Pixel’s camera also has a “shorter capture time than any of other smartphone tested.” See the full list of features here -> [Click here] Google also announced “unlimited storage backup in original quality,” calling out Apple’s iCloud service which doesn’t provide their users the same offer.
Skipping further ahead in the address, Google announced a brand-new transfer tool that comes included in the box with each and every Pixel smartphone. The presented noted that consumers find it “hard to switch from one OS to another.” The demonstration of Quick Switch, the transfer tool, showed it in action converting memory to Pixel from an Apple iPhone. The presenter event noted that all i-messages carry over to the Android with a tap.
The last poke came about midway through the event, where Google noted that the Pixel smartphone includes a headphone jack, unlike some others. By others, Google means Motorola and Apple, who ditched the headphone jack on their 2016 flagship smartphones. Google even noted this is one of its introduction video advertisements, just to make sure everybody knows. It’s almost like companies are using this as a way to say “we have something that you don’t,” which in my opinion shouldn’t be for something we’ve had for years.
