T-Mobile and Sprint are thinking about a merger. This is not fresh news. It seems that every six months it gets reported that T-Mobile and Sprint are considering merging. It has been in negotiation for a few years, but no movement has really been made.
Yesterday afternoon, CNBC reported that the two carriers are “actively engaged” in merger talks but have not settled on an agreement. There’s still no confirmation that this will ever happen, and given the extended length of time this kind of report has been going around, you should probably take it with a grain of salt until more is learned.
We know T-Mobile and Sprint are interested in merging, but we have become doubtful in any hope that the event will occur. The underlying reason for this being that when the two first spoke of the idea surrounding a merger, Sprint was the larger carrier in the US. Flash forward to today, and T-Mobile has taken third, just behind AT&T and Verizon (the nation’s leader). It’s going to take a lot of compromises by each side if the two want to meet in the middle, and at this point in time, both carriers don’t seem to be in any kind of rush to push towards a deal.
If something does happen, we’ll know about it before the change is actually made, as any such deal would be subject to many approvals of which will be made public. We’ll keep you posted as we always do.
